Stephen P. Duerst, JD is highly active in government affairs and lobbying, political campaigns, consulting, business development and other similar areas where the law, government, and business intersect.

 

At Federico // Duerst Consulting Group, Stephen engages in governmental lobbying on the local, state, and federal level; legislative monitoring; public relations; issue management; regulatory counsel; and, professional association management. The firm's clients range from state based organizations to Fortune 100 companies.

 

Previously with Cowan Strategies, Stephen helped start what is now considered one of Washington, DC's premier boutique consulting firms.  Chiefly, the firm assisted its clients with business development, Washington lobbying efforts and the targeting and entering of foreign markets. 

 

Prior to his consulting work, Stephen was hired at the Republican National Committee to assist the organization in its fundraising efforts. Stephen, along with his colleagues, raised record funds at the RNC to advantageously position the GOP financially ahead of the 2012 U.S. presidential election. In 2012, Stephen was brought onto Governor Mitt Romney’s campaign and was a key member of the finance team that raised nearly $1 billion. 

 

Stephen graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  He also earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law and graduated in the top-third of his class. Thereafter, he became a licensed attorney.  He and his wife, Cate Stark Duerst, reside in the Kansas City area.  In their free time, Stephen and Cate love spending time with their daughter and son.
